Rapid Prototyping

Technology

CMP Design uses superior Stratasys technology to create fully functional prototypes of your ideas. Stratasys fused deposition modelling (FDM®) technology is the only ABS prototyping system. Models are so true to life that they can be tested under actual conditions, used for casting, and as mould-making patterns and masters.

Best of all, ABS models help designers and engineers visualize and analyze their ideas in three dimensions. What better way to discover improvements?

Rapid prototyping begins with QuickSlice® software analysis of your CAD STL files. QuickSlice mathematically 'slices' and orients your design in three dimensions for modelling, including designing any necessary supports.

The FDM process then builds the model by extruding thin layers of thermoplastic material according to the QuickSlice coordinates. Depending on the complexity of the model and the materials required, the process takes from minutes to hours.

Modeling materials
CMP Design offers four materials to accommodate the range of modelling requrements. All materials are inert and nontoxic. For realistic simulations, CPM prototypes can incorporate different materials and colours.

ABS: Acrylonitrile/butadiene/styrene resin – an extremely durable plastic that is ideal for modelling purposes. ABS provides the impact resistance, toughness, heat stability, chemical resistance and rigidity to perform functional tests on sample parts. It can replace prototype tools for injection molding end-use ABS, and can be machined, drilled, tapped, painted, glued and sanded. Colours: black, red, green, blue, white and yellow.

ABSi: Medical-use ABS that withstands gamma sterilizationup to 5 MRad, and has a notched impact rating of 176 J/m. (3.3 ft.-lb./in). It meets all FDM USP Class VI requirements and is resistant to chemicals that commonly come in contact with medical devices.

Investment casting wax: Industry-standard casting wax with low 0.004% ash and rapid dewaxing characteristics.

Elastomer: Resilient yet flexible material with a flex modulus of 20,000 psi, making it ideal for applications such as seals, bushings, protective boots, hose and tubing, and impact-absorbing devices. Industries such as automotive, electronic, appliance and power tool, sporting goods, footwear and off-road transportation often require elastomer modelling.
